The probate process in Delaware County, Media, Pennsylvania follows several important steps. It begins with filing the will with the Register of Wills in the county where the decedent resided, which for our clients is typically in Delaware County. Once the will is filed, the court will appoint the executor or personal representative named in the will to manage the estate. After the executor is appointed, they must inventory all of the deceased’s assets, including real estate , bank accounts, and personal property, to determine the value of the estate. Following the inventory, any outstanding debts and taxes owed by the estate must be paid before assets can be distributed to beneficiaries. Finally, the executor will distribute the remaining assets to the beneficiaries, either according to the will or Pennsylvania’s intestacy laws if no will exists.
