He has been on both sides of the system. As Chief Public Defender in Amador County, he fought for defendants who could not afford private counsel. As District Attorney staff, he handled criminal and felony motions in the California Superior Court. For two years he ran the District Attorney Asset Forfeiture Program and never lost a case. As Chief Probation Officer, he made sentencing recommendations to Superior Courts in two counties. He knows how prosecutors think, how judges evaluate cases, and where the pressure points are, because he has sat at every table in that room.
